Yda Hillis Addis went missing. She was a writer from Kansas who suffered a series of unhappy relationships, and poured her misgivings against a world which had wronged her into fantastical novels. Published in San Fransisco-based Journal ‘The Argonaut’, the mythical, monstrous she-beasts she wrote of tore the literal hearts out of men who dared to stray too far into their territory, take too much ground that did not belong them, or disrespect the boundaries between an ineffable, wondrous nature and their own, imperfect humanity.

With her good name dragged through the mud by the media at the behest of powerful ex-lovers in cahoots with local lawmakers, at gunpoint she woke her attorney, who was colluding with her soon-to-be-ex-husband, and shot him. He survived and she was committed to an asylum. In a final act of defiance, she escaped. Though never seen again, in the tears between pages and papers of her books she calls out to those willing to finally listen to her as she spends the remainder of her days missing.
